Debris Racks
Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District | Cleveland , Ohio
This project design is to repair, improve or install debris racks and/or improve access at seven (7) selected NEORSD Regional Stormwater System (RSS) assets throughout the service area. The goals for this project are:
- Improve access for maintenance crews
- Ease maintenance of debris rack
- Reduce maintenance costs/reduce frequency of maintenance
- Reduce frequency of flooding due to debris blockage
- Improve sediment transport and aquatic life passage
Osborn is the lead designer providing design services consisting of hydraulic analysis and design, structural analysis and design, permitting, and site design. This is a progressive Design Build (DB) project with a GMP delivered at the 60% design completion stage.
The design of debris rack includes hydraulic design per HEC-9 guidance document related to design and hydraulic analysis of Debris Control structures as well as structural design per AASHTO, AISC and scour calculations per HEC-18 guidelines. Project challenges include work in and around existing flows, incorporating FAA drainage design guidelines, as well as a complex design coordination and permitting process involving local and federal agencies (Army Corps, FEMA, FAA, ODOT).
