North Coast Connector

REMOVING THE BARRIER AND BRIDGING THE GAP
For years, Cleveland’s largest natural asset, The Lakefront, has been isolated from the downtown due to the multitude rails and highways that lie in the way.
The vision is to create a broad elevated park connecting Downtown’s Mall C plaza to North Coast Harbor and adjacent land. It will create30-acres of greenspace that ties together the Great Lakes Science Center, the Rock and Roll HOF and Museum, the stadium and proposed new housing, retail and hotels in the area. Extending the city’s street grid north to the shoreline could free up more than 70 acres of land for development.
OSBORN’S ROLE
Osborn was hired by the City of Cleveland to perform a feasibility study and develop a preferred alternative to construct an elevated park to allow for connectivity between downtown and the lakefront. Osborn’s goal is to design a multi-modal project that will provide safe connectivity for pedestrian, bicyclist, car, transit, passenger rail and Port traffic.
Osborn’s scope of work will include traffic modeling and analysis, roadway design, pedestrian and vehicle bridge design, and traffic control. We worked closely with the Haslam Group and Nelson Byrd Wultz Landscape Architects to develop a vision for the lakefront that not only includes the transportation component, but also a full mixed-use vision, including a vibrant public space plan.
