Osborn teamed with Holzheimer Bolek Architects for the design of Gilmour Academy’s recreation center complex. The natatorium has a new 25-yard, eight-lane competition pool and an instructional pool. The new Lancer Gymnasium features a four-sided above-floor scoreboard, seating for 800 and is used as a multipurpose facility for school and athletic events. The complex includes new locker and shower rooms, meeting rooms and classrooms. A “Hall of Academics” was integrated into the facility to honor graduated athletes.
The facility utilizes a mix of both indirect and direct energy-efficient metal halide lighting. HVAC systems include the use of dehumidification systems for handling the atmosphere created by the pools. Structural features include the use of delta trusses made up using round tubular members to support the multi-curved roof and to create a pleasing, clean design.
