Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education
Osborn, in conjunction with Sasaki & Associates, Inc., provided all engineering services for the design of a new 60,000 square foot Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education at Bluffton University.
The facility includes new athletic administration offices, exercise and weight lifting facilities, varsity sports and public locker rooms, a sports medicine and treatment center, and a new competition gymnasium for varsity and intramural sports. The facility was designed to achieve LEED® Silver or Gold certification standards. The project was designed using Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology and featured many engineering design challenges including a complex flood plain analysis for the site. Innovative design features included a rainwater harvesting system and daylight harvesting controls. In addition to providing all engineering services, Osborn also provided fundamental commissioning of the building.
