Tennis, Soccer and Baseball Sports Complex
Osborn was responsible for the sports fields and civil and structural engineering design on a team led by GBBN Architects. This project included replacing the existing fields at the Bill Davis Baseball Stadium and the Jesse Owens Track and Soccer Field Stadium, as well as the design and construction of the new Stickney Tennis Stadium. The project required a design schedule of only two months for the replacement/construction of two new fields—one natural grass and one artificial in-fill turf—and the new tennis courts so that they would all be ready for the 2011 Fall seasons.
Osborn’s design for the new artificial turf baseball field centered on a uniform aggregate drainage/base subgrade constructed in two layers, which allowed the owner to assess multiple options for infill-type turf surfaces, including AstroTurf 3D, FieldTurf, SportExe and Motz Group Turf.
Osborn provided the detailed layout and dimension drawings for the infield, warning tracks, block “O” and field markings, and we assisted GBBN in administering the construction phase services. Osborn also coordinated the storm water collection and detention design with the City of Columbus.
