Schottensten Center North Expansion and Concourse Fan Experience Upgrades
Osborn in collaboration with NBBJ, was commissioned to plan and design a new fan experience strategy for the existing public concourse spaces which are original to the 20 year old facility. Ohio State University decided to undergo a substantial modernization and addition of public space. The renovated concourses will include new video screens, kiosks, immersive video & audio at primary entrances and other fan experience technology. The University expects the improvements to enhance the game-day experience for fans attending the various events at the facility. The project also includes a large expansion of the main concourse on the north side of the building. The new space will include a larger team store and gathering space. The addition will be a focal point of the University’s on-going athletic campus master plan.
New Video Board Installation in Existing Space (2016)
A large curved video display was installed on the southeast façade of the University’s arena. The 30’ x 50’ board was mounted to the exterior of the round rotunda and provides high visibility from adjacent heavily traveled cross roads. The display board was anchored to the existing steel frame located behind a brick veneer. The weight of the video display was distributed to multiple framing members to ensure that no beam or column are overstressed. The board is energized from a nearby electrical panel with available circuits. Osborn served as engineering consultant and peer reviewer on behalf of the University.
